Sun, sandy beaches, mountain vistas, and wave runners; it can't get much better than that! Our family spent a day, during Melody's family's reunion, up at Rockport Reservoir with boat loads (literally) of our nieces, nephews, and siblings. We had a ball (not literally)!
We brought all of our kayaks and Melody's brother was able to score a deal on renting a wave runner from the local marina. Wave runners seem to have a mystic power of transforming their drivers, which elsewhere would carry themselves with maturity and discipline, into teenagers. Lots of laughing, screaming, hooting, and hollering! It was awesome!
Nuts and bolts of the trip
There was a small entry fee ($10) but plenty of parking, lots of pavilions, and sandy beaches. Definitely a family friendly place to spend the day.3 tips if you're headed that way:
- Bring plenty of water- We didn't come across any water fountains on our trip and the lake water...well, is lake water.
- Pack your own shade- The lake has receded quite a ways from the park pavilions. So ,if you aren't a sun worshiper but want to rest by the water's edge, be sure to bring that umbrella.
- Toys are fun for all ages- while splashing around is fun, beach balls, Frisbees, and pool toys (watch our for sharp rocks) always kick it up a level. For the bigger "kids", the marina rents boats, wave runners, and inner tubes.
All in all, Abby loved it...
...and Lilly slept.
We'll be headed back before long!
